What is Project 2,996?

Project 2,996 is an online initiative to get people to learn about--and remember--the victim's of 9/11.

Choose one of the names from the list, research it, learn about the person, and post a tribute to your blog, website, or whereever, so others can learn about that person.

But most important, it's a way to remember their lives and not the terrible, public way they were taken from us.

Past Years

2006: The First Year

By any measure, Project 2,996 was a huge success in just it's first year. Sure on 9/11 we were plagued by server shut-downs, but over three thousand people took the time to learn about one of the victims, and thousands upon thousands of other people read the tributes. And if that's the trade-off, give me a server shutdown anyday.

If you were one of the thousands who participated two years ago, I thank you from the bottom of my patriotic heart. You were part of the largest coalition of bloggers ever to hit the internet, and that's nothing to hang your head about.

Visit the 2006 list to see the final list of participants, or read some of the tributes.

2007: The Second Year

In 2007, Project 2996 was scaled back a bit. Health concerns and job market difficulties made it impossible to match the time I devoted to it in 2006.

Even still, several hundred people took the time to write tributes to the fallen, and pledges to remember them still.
